I started selling on Etsy on a whim and I cannot believe how things have taken off! My shop has over 11,000 sales and nearly 2,500 five-star reviews. I have learned how to stand out from the competition and make this small idea into a thriving online business!
But it didn’t start out that way!
In 2013, I wanted to throw my 2-year-old son a birthday party and could NOT find any party favors I loved. I started to look into options for making my own and I realized I had a decision to make:
Option 1: Buy the 10 favors (which is the number I actually needed) at full price.
Option 2: Buy a case of 50 and get each party favor for a fraction of the cost.
Now, most people would say, “Just go with 10. Who needs 50 party favors?” But…as a woman with an entrepreneurial mindset…I always think I can turn just about anything into a business! So, in my usual “Stacy” fashion, I decided to order the case of 50 favors and see if I could personalize and sell the extras on Etsy.
I personalized the favors for our party guests, posted photos of them on Etsy, and waited. In one week, I sold my first party favor and I was hooked! The feeling of knowing someone in the world thought my craft was cool enough to actually purchase gave me all the feels! I couldn’t wait to see when my next sale would come in and I was determined to make my shop a success. After all, I had another 39 more party favors to sell!
